JATOBA, known in Peru as Azucar Huayo, is a towering canopy tree that grows plentifully throughout the Peruvian Amazon Rain Forest ecosystems. All parts of the tree are used medicinally for varying purposes. The tree produces an aromatic copal amber resin (think Jurassic Park) that not only helps the JATOBA tree resist decay but also protects the tree from wounds, insect attacks or other affronts to its health.

Interestingly, JATOBA is one of the few trees in the Amazon that remains unaffected by fungal infections that commonly plague Amazonian trees.

JATOBA is used throughout South American herbal, medical systems for diarrhea, dysentery, intestinal gas, dyspepsia, ulcers, yeast and fungal infections, systemic Candida in the stomach and intestines, hemorrhages, and a variety of stomach ailments. It may also help expel intestinal worms and parasitic infestations and may help address conditional needs related to difficult to treat foot and nail fungus.

Other common traditional, herbal, medical uses of JATOBA includes for cough, bronchitis, asthma, laryngitis, hemoptysis (coughing blood up from the lungs), upper respiratory and cardiopulmonary breathing problems, lung weakness, hemorrhages, and other idiopathic respiratory disorders and distresses.

JATOBA has a lengthy history of use for acute and chronic cystitis and prostatitis (can be fungal in nature rather than bacterial and may also help decongest the urinary tract), urethritis, urine retention, urine insufficiency, detoxing pus, chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS),and may help address tensile bladder loss, also known as urinary incontinence.

JATOBA is used for joint pain, bursitis and arthritis as well as specific infections including E. coli, Psuedomonas, Staphylococcus and Bacillus.

JATOBA is strongly antioxidant, digestive, stimulant, anti-dysenteric, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-Candidal, antifungal and anti-yeast (likely the most important plant properties), antimicrobial, system energizer, fortifier, decongestant, expectorant, anti-tussive, purgative, molluscicidal (may help kill and control snails and snugs), anti-spasmodic, astringent, carminative (expels gas), cough suppressant, antitumor, diabetic, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic (due to s ignificant reduction in blood sugar levels), anti-plasmodium, diuretic, tonic (tones, balances and strengthens overall body systems), vermifuge (expels worms), and vulnerary (wound healer).

The natural plant compounds of JATOBA include novel diterpenes, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, oligosaccharides. terpene, phenolic and phytic acids, novel astilbin and copalic acids, delta-cadinene, caryophyllene, alpha-copaene, alpha-cubebene, alpha-himachalene, alpha-humulene, alpha-muurolene, alpha-selinene, astilibin, beta-bisabolene, beta-bourbonene, beta-copaene, betacubebene, beta-gurjunene, beta-humulene, beta-selinene, beta-sitosterol, calarene, carboxylic acids, catechins, clerodane diterpenes, communic acids, copacamphene, cubebene, cyclosativene, cyperene, gamma-muurolene, gamma-cadinene, halimadienoic acids, heptasaccharides, kovalenic acid, labdadiene acids, octasaccharides, oligosaccharides, ozic acids, polysaccharides, selinenes, and taxifolin.
